ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
NORTHPORT COMMUNITY LIBRARY
This project focuses on a design proposal for a library in the community of Northport. The library is proposed to be designed on a site near the docks on a parking lot easily assessable by the Northport community. My proposal is to design a library that stands out from the surrounding site.

The Northport-East Northport Library has purchased a new lot on which to construct a new Public Library branch. The lot previously served as a Municipal parking lot (municipal parking zone). For the construction of this building, the Library and Architect will work with the Town to change the zone to C-13 Cultural Center District. It is important to consider the site when planning out your building orientation. Referencing the existing site above, it is important to take advantage of the beautiful water views as well as maintaining pedestrian connection to the dock and Northport park paths.
INSPIRATION & CONCEPTUAL IDEAS

My inspiration for the Northport Library comes from the ICA Building located in Boston, Massachusetts. This building is location near Seaport Ferry, a waterfront, and because the location was so similar, I wanted to challenge myself in designing a commercial building with a cantilever. I've always been astonished with the design concept surround the use of a cantilever because it looks as though it's floating and, to incorporate this concept into my design, I wanted to design the cantilever to look over the water as well as shade an outdoor reading lounge that is accessible from the park next to where I wish to place the building on the site.
